South End Neighborhood Revitalization Zone
Minutes of the Meeting
Tuesday, December 14, 2004
Lathon Wider Community Center

The 6:30 meeting was preceded a half hour earlier by a holiday gathering. Thank you to Polly O’Brien and Pitney Bowes for the delicious offerings of food and drinks.

Dr Johnnie Lee, Director of the Stamford Health Department, spoke about the Breath of Fresh Air program which partners with the Bridgeport Health Center. This involves school health professionals (school nurses) identifying asthma sufferers and going into homes to educate the affected families. The program instructs not only environmental management but also pharmaceutical solutions. Identifying the individuals suffering from asthma is the key first step.

President Sheila Barney described the fact that local businesses like O & G and Vitti Construction generate problems that diminish good air quality in the South End.

Linda Cannady informed those in attendance that complaints (anonymous or otherwise) about air quality could be phoned into the State’s Hotline: 860 424 3436.

Sean Gage, a loft artist in the Yale & Towne complex, could not make it to the meeting to describe a grant application he was trying to secure for sidewalk beautification and amenities.

Laural Anderson publicized a program that she’s involved with, the Mobile Feline Unit, that provides low cost or free spaying or neutering and shots for cats.

The short meeting closed at 7 PM
