Revitalization Zone Minutes of the Meeting Tuesday, November 8, 2005 Lathon Wider Community Center Sheila Barney opened the meeting at 6:30PM. Sheila introduced Margaret Kelly, Program Administrator & Evaluator for Northeast Utilities’ Conservation & Load Management Dept. Ms Kelly spoke briefly about her company’s efforts to promote conservation in household electrical consumption. Ms Kelly provided tips for “tightening up” around the house – weather stripping, insulating, and caulking. She noted that lighting consumption is about 20% of the typical residential bill and recommended replacing all incandescent lamps with compact fluorescents. Ms Kelly announced that there would be a sale of energy efficient products at the Lathon Wider Center on December 1st. A dozen handout “goody bags” of a sampling of such products were distributed to those in attendance. President Barney introduced Christopher Prokop, Coordinator of Social Services for the Yale – New Haven Lead Program. Chris directs the LAMPP (Lead Action for Medicaid Primary Prevention) Program, which provides financial assistance to address lead hazards, including: - An inspection and assessment of the home - Relocation assistance during the hazard control work - Education for owners and tenants - Professional guidance and technical support throughout the entire project. The HUD funded program is offered to qualified property owners who agree to certain conditions, while receiving the assessment without cost and the remediation work funding (with a cap) via a forgivable loan. Chris pointed out that the program is fairly participant-friendly with a low level of red tape. Announcement: The annual Christmas tree lighting at St Luke's Courtyard will be held on December 8th. Since there were no other questions or concerns, Sheila Barney closed the meeting at 7PM
